Private active journey
About this Journey
Discover Northeast China's winter landscapes on a seven-day route through Harbin, China Snow Town, and Changbai Mountain. City architecture and illuminated ice sculptures give way to deep forest snow, volcanic hot springs, wilderness activities, Heaven Lake, skiing, snow-house hot pot, and rime rafting. The journey uses a fixed reference sequence while allowing safe adjustments when mountain weather limits access.

Harbin begins the winter journey with Central Street, St. Sophia Cathedral, the old railway bridge, and the illuminated architecture of Ice and Snow World. The route then travels through Heilongjiang's snow-covered forests to China Snow Town and its lantern-lit lanes.

Changbai Mountain provides the second half of the route: volcanic hot springs, a wilderness camp, Heaven Lake, snow-house hot pot, skiing, and rime rafting on an unfrozen river. Weather can alter access to the summit, but the route retains a full sequence of winter landscapes and outdoor experiences.

Harbin’s architecture and illuminated ice parks open the journey before deep-snow villages, forest roads, volcanic hot springs, and Changbai Mountain shift the focus toward Northeast China’s winter landscape.
Itinerary
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Harbin landmarks and Ice and Snow World
Begin on Central Street among Harbin's European-influenced façades, then walk to St. Sophia Cathedral and continue to the century-old railway bridge for views across the frozen Songhua River. The morning route introduces the Russian and railway history that shaped the city.
After an early dinner, enter Harbin Ice and Snow World before sunset. See the carved structures in daylight, remain as the coloured lights transform the park after dark, and ride the main ice slides before returning to the hotel.

Day 2: Datudingzi Mountain, Ice and Snow Gallery and China Snow Town
Travel through the snow-covered forests of Heilongjiang toward Datudingzi Mountain. Specialised snow vehicles cross the winter landscape, followed by time in the Ice and Snow Gallery among rime-covered trees and deep forest snow.
Continue to China Snow Town and walk through the village as red lanterns illuminate its rounded snow-covered roofs. Finish at the central viewing area and enjoy the scheduled evening activity confirmed for the visit before settling in for the night.

Day 3: Snow Town to Changbai Mountain and volcanic hot springs
Leave Snow Town after breakfast for the road journey to Changbai Mountain, watching the landscape change from low forest and villages to the volcanic mountain region. Breaks are planned along the drive before arrival in the Erdaobaihe area.
In the late afternoon, visit Linxi Volcanic Hot Spring and soak in indoor and outdoor pools fed by the local geothermal system. Warm water, cold air, and surrounding snow provide a slower recovery day before the more active mountain programme begins.

Day 4: Snow Valley wilderness camp
Spend the day at a forest camp in the Snow Valley near Changbai Mountain. Begin with a guided walk through the winter woodland, then continue with the camp's confirmed snow activities, which include an ATV route, a traditional horse-drawn sledge, ice fishing, and games on the frozen landscape.
A Northeast-style outdoor meal is served at the camp, followed by hands-on candied-hawthorn making and time beside the bonfire. The afternoon continues with the camp programme before the return transfer, completing a full day in the winter forest landscape.

Day 5: Changbai Mountain North Slope, Heaven Lake and snow-house hot pot
Enter the North Slope scenic area and use the park transport toward Heaven Lake. When the summit road is open, continue to the crater-lake viewpoint; the wider visit also includes volcanic forest, mountain viewpoints, and the principal North Slope landscapes.
After descending, warm up over a traditional hot-pot meal in a snow house at Jiuxi Tingquan. The contrast between the volcanic mountain environment and the sheltered winter dining experience forms the focus of the afternoon.

Day 6: Hongsongwang Ski Resort and Erdaobaihe
Spend approximately four hours at Hongsongwang Ski Resort, a smaller mountain area suited to beginner and recreational skiing. Equipment fitting and a gentle orientation come first, followed by time on the appropriate slopes at a pace matched to previous experience.
Return to Erdaobaihe in the afternoon and walk through the resort town at the foot of Changbai Mountain. The lighter second half of the day leaves time to recover, enjoy the winter streets, and prepare for the early rafting departure.

Day 7: Rime rafting and departure from Changbai Mountain
Start with a roughly forty-minute rafting journey on a naturally unfrozen river fed by the Changbai Mountain water system. Warm water meeting sub-zero air can create mist and white rime on the riverbank trees, while large stable rafts and provided waterproof trousers keep the activity scenic rather than extreme.
After changing into dry clothing, meet the private vehicle for Changbaishan Airport or Changbai Mountain West Station. The transfer time is planned around the confirmed onward service so the winter journey concludes without another rushed stop.
