Private day trip
About this Journey
Travel from Chengdu to the Leshan Giant Buddha, a preserved old town, and a mountain tea-growing community in one full day. A river view of the Buddha is followed by traditional workshops, a courtyard home, tea picking, tea making, and a guided tasting before the return to Chengdu.

The day begins with the drive from Chengdu to Leshan and a boat journey that reveals the full scale of the Giant Buddha from the river. The route then leaves the busiest sightseeing area for an old town of workshops, teahouses, and courtyard homes.

In the nearby hills, a tea farmer introduces the growing conditions, leaf selection, and hand-picking of local tea. The experience continues with a family workshop, where the stages of tea making lead naturally into a guided tasting before the return to Chengdu.

The river view of the Leshan Giant Buddha is paired with an old-town walk and a hands-on tea visit in the hills, making the day as much about living craft and cultivation as it is about the monumental carving.

Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Leshan Giant Buddha, historic town and tea terraces
Meet the guide at the Chengdu hotel and drive approximately two and a half hours to Leshan. Board a sightseeing boat on the river for a complete view of the Giant Buddha carved into the cliff, observing the scale of the statue, drainage system, and meeting of the rivers from the water.
Continue to a preserved old town and walk among a blacksmith's shop, bamboo workshop, traditional barber, teahouse, and a century-old courtyard home. The guide explains how these trades and domestic spaces survived as the surrounding region modernised.
Drive into the nearby hills to meet a tea farmer and walk through the terraces. Learn to identify suitable buds, pick leaves by hand, follow the stages of heating and rolling with a tea-making family, and finish with a guided tasting before the road journey back to Chengdu.
