Private cultural journey
About this Journey
This 4-day itinerary provides an insightful look into the vibrant contrasts of Shanghai, where futuristic skyscrapers coexist with ancient gardens and riverside legends come alive alongside grand neoclassical façades. You will experience breathtaking views from the Oriental Pearl Tower, stroll through the timeless alleys of the Old Town, and visit iconic landmarks such as the Bund and Yu Garden. Additionally, you will cruise along the Huangpu River and find tranquility at the Jade Buddha Temple. With smooth transfers, comfortable accommodations, and a balanced schedule, this journey captures the essence of China’s most dynamic and elegant metropolis.

Shanghai's contrasts unfold from above and at street level. The Oriental Pearl Tower and Huangpu cruise frame the modern skyline, while the Shanghai History Museum and the Bund explain how the city grew around trade and the river.

Yu Garden, the Old Town, Xintiandi, and the Jade Buddha Temple form the cultural core of the second sightseeing day. Classical garden design, shikumen lanes, market streets, and Buddhist art reveal several distinct layers within the same city.

From Yu Garden and the Jade Buddha Temple to the Bund, Huangpu River, and Pudong skyline, the route follows Shanghai’s layers from old-city courtyards to the architecture of the modern waterfront.
Itinerary
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Shanghai
Meet the private driver in the airport or railway-station arrival hall and continue to the downtown hotel. Check in, settle after the journey, and review the following days' sightseeing sequence with enough time to rest.
In the late afternoon, take a short guided orientation walk near the hotel. The easy first outing introduces the surrounding neighbourhood and Shanghai's street rhythm without repeating attractions reserved for the full sightseeing days.

Day 2: Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai History Museum and Huangpu River
Begin at the Oriental Pearl Tower and look across the Huangpu River from the upper observation level. Continue to the Shanghai History Museum, where reconstructed shopfronts, vintage transport, photographs, and everyday objects trace the city's transformation from a river settlement into a major international port.
In the afternoon, cruise the Huangpu between the Bund's historic façades and Pudong's modern towers. Return to the west bank for a closer architectural walk along the Bund, then continue into Nanjing East Road as its shops, signs, and evening crowds illuminate the pedestrian street.

Day 3: Yu Garden, Old Town, Xintiandi and Jade Buddha Temple
Start in Yu Garden, moving through rockeries, ponds, pavilions, and narrow corridors designed to reveal changing compositions. Continue into the Old Town and City God Temple area, where Taoist traditions, market lanes, crafts, and local snacks occupy the streets around the classical garden.
After lunch, walk through Xintiandi's restored shikumen lanes and contemporary public spaces, then finish at the Jade Buddha Temple. Its halls, incense-filled courtyards, and carved jade images provide a quieter close to the day in the centre of the city.

Day 4: Depart Shanghai
Enjoy a light final morning close to the hotel, with time for breakfast, packing, and check-out. The schedule avoids adding a distant attraction that could make the onward transfer uncertain.
At the agreed time, meet the private vehicle and continue to the airport or railway station. Pickup is arranged around the confirmed flight or train so there is sufficient time for check-in and departure formalities.
