Private cultural journey
About this Journey
Follow a five-day spring journey through Jingdezhen and Wuyuan, beginning with imperial kilns, working ceramic studios, and hands-on craft before continuing to tea fields, Yaoli Ancient Town, oil-paper umbrella making, terraced villages, and historic countryside bridges. Seasonal flowers and evening performances vary by date, while porcelain, tea, and rural architecture remain at the heart of the route.

Jingdezhen begins the journey with the Imperial Kiln archaeological site, working kilns, artist studios, and a hands-on activity that transforms discarded ceramic fragments into a small personal piece. These visits explain porcelain as both an imperial craft and a living contemporary industry.

The route then continues through Hanxi's tea fields, Yaoli Ancient Town, Wuyuan's umbrella-making tradition, and the villages and bridges around Huangling and Hongguan. Spring flowers and evening cultural programmes are seasonal features, while the porcelain, tea, architecture, and countryside remain the route's central experiences.

Imperial kiln history, working studios, tea fields, umbrella making, and Wuyuan’s villages connect finished porcelain to the materials, craftspeople, and rural landscapes that continue to sustain the region’s traditions.
Itinerary
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Jingdezhen and visit the Imperial Kiln site
Arrive in Jingdezhen by mid-afternoon and meet the station transfer. After hotel check-in, continue to the Imperial Kiln Factory National Archaeological Site, where surviving kiln foundations and museum displays explain the production of porcelain for the Ming and Qing courts.
Remain into the evening to examine how vessel shapes, glazes, firing technology, and imperial taste changed across successive periods. A kiln-workers' style dinner introduces the practical food traditions associated with ceramic workshops before the return to the hotel.

Day 2: Ancient Kiln, Sculpture Porcelain Factory and ceramic renewal workshop
Begin at the Ancient Kiln Folk Art Exhibition Area to follow porcelain from clay preparation and shaping through glazing and firing. Working kilns and craft demonstrations show how techniques changed across different historical periods.
Continue to the Sculpture Porcelain Factory, where old industrial buildings now contain artist studios, workshops, and ceramic shops. In the afternoon, select discarded porcelain fragments and reshape, carve, or assemble them into a small piece of jewellery during the Shattered Ceramics Reborn activity, then finish in the city's ceramic creative district.

Day 3: Hanxi tea fields, Yaoli Ancient Town and Wuyuan umbrella craft
Travel to Hanxi Village and walk through the tea fields toward the hilltop Lamp of the Earth installation. Meet local tea growers, taste the seasonal harvest, and learn how the mountain terrain and spring climate influence the fields.
Continue to Yaoli Ancient Town, where Gan-style houses, forest, streams, tea, and the remains of historic porcelain production meet in one valley. Later, visit a Wuyuan oil-paper umbrella workshop and paint a handmade umbrella before continuing to Wuyuan.

Day 4: Huangling terraces and Wuyunzhou
Begin in Huangling, a mountain village built above broad terraces. Walk through the stepped lanes and viewpoints, studying the white-walled Hui-style houses, farming displays, and fields that change colour with the season.
Continue to Wuyunzhou in the afternoon for its waterside interpretation of Hui architecture, bridges, courtyards, and the local legend of the Flying Maiden. Remain into the evening to see the illuminated public spaces before returning to the hotel.

Day 5: Hongguan Village, Chaguan Bridge and departure from Wuyuan
Walk through Hongguan Village and the surrounding countryside, where white walls, dark tiled roofs, old trees, and cultivated fields form a characteristic Wuyuan landscape. Spring departures may see broad areas of rapeseed blossom, while the village architecture remains the main focus throughout the season.
Continue to Chaguan Ancient Bridge and follow the stream past moss-covered stonework and rural houses. After lunch, transfer to Wuyuan Railway Station for the confirmed high-speed train and onward journey.
