Day 1: Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall Day Tour
Leave the Beijing hotel by private vehicle for the journey to Miyun. On arrival, begin in Gubei Water Town, a mountain settlement of canals, stone lanes, bridges, and courtyard-style buildings set below the Simatai section of the Great Wall.
Walk through the waterside neighbourhoods and see how the reconstructed town draws on the architecture of northern Chinese villages. The surrounding reservoir, wooded slopes, and distant watchtowers provide a calm introduction before the Great Wall ascent.
Continue to the Simatai Great Wall, one of the steepest and best-preserved sections near Beijing. Walk along original masonry and watchtower remains while taking in wide views across the border mountains and the neighbouring Jinshanling ridgeline.
The climb is demanding in places, so the pace allows time for steps, viewpoints, and rest stops. After descending, return by private vehicle to your preferred drop-off point in Beijing.
