Private cultural journey
About this Journey
This curated journey invites you to explore the poetic beauty and cultural soul of Jiangnan, one of China’s most enchanting regions. From the misty serenity of West Lake to the tea-scented hills of Meijiawu and the timeless charm of Wuzhen Water Town, every day reveals a new layer of elegance and tradition. Walk ancient temple paths, row through secluded lake inlets, savor a riverside banquet, and trace the artistry of classical gardens in Suzhou. With thoughtfully arranged experiences—such as sutra copying, tea-picking, and guided strolls through heritage districts—this itinerary blends spiritual calm, natural beauty, and refined taste. Ideal for travelers seeking a slower pace and deeper cultural immersion, this trip offers not just sights, but stories, flavors, and feelings.

Begin with West Lake, Lingyin Temple, Longjing tea, and Wuzhen’s canals, then continue to Suzhou’s gardens, museum, historic lanes, and Tiger Hill.

Tea making, garden design, canal life, local food, and temple traditions are woven into a measured route through three distinct Jiangnan settings.

A night in Wuzhen connects Hangzhou's lakes, temples, and tea hills with Suzhou's gardens and canals, creating a continuous journey through the water landscapes of Jiangnan.
Itinerary
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Hangzhou: Hangzhou
Arrive in Hangzhou and transfer privately from the airport or railway station to the hotel. After check-in, take time to settle before beginning with an easy introduction to the city's historic centre.
Walk through Hefang Street and Southern Song Imperial Street, where restored shopfronts, traditional crafts, pharmacies, and local snacks recall Hangzhou's former role as an imperial capital. The gentle evening route keeps the first day relaxed while offering an immediate sense of place.

Day 2: Secrets of West Lake and Ancient Temples: Lingyin Temple – Leifeng Pagoda
In the morning, explore Lingyin Temple and Feilai Peak—sacred ground since the Eastern Jin Dynasty and the legendary birthplace of Monk Jigong.
Experience a peaceful moment with a traditional sutra copying session, cleansing the mind with ink and intention.
After lunch, board a handcrafted rowboat to explore the lesser-seen corners of West Lake—glide past tranquil inlets, tea islands, and historic residences.
Later, ascend Leifeng Pagoda for sweeping views of the lake, and discover mysterious relics within its ancient halls.

Day 3: A Taste of Tea and Tranquility in Wuzhen: Hangzhou – Wuzhen
Begin in Meijiawu Tea Village, where the terraces and workshops introduce Longjing tea from leaf picking through pan roasting and brewing. Join the hands-on process, taste the finished tea, and pause for a farmhouse lunch among the surrounding hills.
Continue by private vehicle to Wuzhen, one of Jiangnan's best-known water towns. Walk beside canals and stone bridges, enter preserved merchant houses, and follow lanes where timber facades, waterside terraces, and narrow alleys show how the town developed around river trade.
Remain in Wuzhen for the evening, when lamps begin to reflect across the canals and the daytime crowds thin. The overnight stay provides time to experience the town beyond a short transit stop before continuing to Suzhou the next morning.

Day 4: A Day of Suzhou Elegance: Wuzhen – Suzhou
Wake up to the quiet charm of Wuzhen’s early morning markets—locals arrive by boat to sip tea and browse stalls along the water’s edge. After breakfast, journey to Suzhou and start your afternoon with a taste of Suzhou-style snacks, a delicious dive into local culture. Explore the Humble Administrator’s Garden, a UNESCO-listed masterpiece of Jiangnan garden design.
Then visit the Suzhou Museum, designed by famed architect I.M. Pei, merging modernity with Ming-style elegance. End the day wandering Pingjiang Road, where canals reflect lantern light and traditional music drifts from tea-houses.

Day 5: Farewell to Jiangnan: Suzhou
Spend the final morning at Tiger Hill, home to the leaning Yunyan Pagoda, ancient sword legends, bonsai gardens, and stone bridges. The hill provides one last view of Suzhou's layered garden and literary traditions.
After the visit, return to the hotel to collect the luggage and continue by private transfer to the railway station or airport. The five-day route concludes after connecting Hangzhou, Wuzhen, and Suzhou through their lakes, gardens, canals, tea culture, and historic streets.
