Private day trip
About this Journey
This Shanghai cultural experience connects brushwork, neighbourhood architecture, and tea through three practical sessions in one half day.

A calligraphy workshop introduces brush control, stroke order, and character structure before participants create a finished piece to take home.

The route then continues through historic Shikumen lanes, where Shanghai’s Eastern and Western architectural influences can be seen at street level, before concluding with tea preparation and tasting.

Each activity is guided at an introductory level, making the programme suitable for travelers who want a creative and accessible encounter with local culture.

Day 1: Calligraphy, Shikumen Architecture & Tea Culture
Begin with a 90-minute Chinese calligraphy workshop. Learn how the brush, ink, paper, stroke order, and character structure work together, then practise several foundational strokes before creating a finished piece with a meaningful character or name.
Continue on foot through a historic Shikumen neighbourhood. The lane houses combine Chinese courtyard traditions with Western building details, offering a close view of how families, commerce, and architecture shaped everyday Shanghai life.
Finish with a one-hour tea workshop and tasting. Compare several major tea styles, observe how teaware changes preparation and flavour, and practise a simple brewing sequence that can be repeated after the journey.
