Private cultural journey
About this Journey
Shanghai reveals its character through the contrast between historic riverfronts, garden courtyards, residential lanes, museums, and the towers of Pudong.

After arrival, the first evening follows the Bund, Nanjing East Road, and Xintiandi. These districts provide an immediate view of the city’s architectural layers and street life.

The second day explores Shanghai History Museum, Yu Garden, the City God Temple area, the Former French Concession, and both banks of the Huangpu River before a visit to Pudong Art Museum.

The route is designed as a two-day introduction to the city. Museum entry and the order of visits are confirmed around opening hours and ticket availability.
Itinerary
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Shanghai: The Bund, Nanjing Road & Xintiandi
Arrive in Shanghai and transfer from the airport or railway station to the hotel. After check-in and a short rest, begin on the west bank of the Huangpu River with an evening walk along the Bund and a view across to the Oriental Pearl Tower and the Pudong skyline.
Continue along Nanjing East Road, one of the city’s busiest pedestrian streets, to observe the flow of shops, historic storefronts, and evening crowds. The walk then turns toward Xintiandi, where restored Shikumen lane houses sit beside contemporary architecture.
Finish the first evening in Xintiandi with time for the dinner included in the confirmed itinerary. Return to the hotel after this introductory route through three districts that show Shanghai’s historic and modern identities side by side.

Day 2: Shanghai History, Gardens, Lanes & the Huangpu River
Begin at Shanghai History Museum, where trams, shopfronts, photographs, and everyday objects trace the city’s development from a river settlement into a global port. Continue to Yu Garden and the nearby City God Temple area to explore Ming-style pavilions, rockeries, ponds, craft shops, and local snacks.
After lunch, walk through the Former French Concession along Wukang Road and Anfu Road. Villas, apartment buildings, leafy streets, and small cultural spaces show how different architectural influences became part of Shanghai’s residential fabric.
Return to the Bund for a daytime view of its historic façades, then cross the Huangpu River by public ferry. Visit Pudong Art Museum and finish with a walk along the Pudong riverfront, looking back toward the Bund from the opposite bank before the day concludes.
