Private cultural journey
About this Journey
This five-day Guilin journey moves beyond the city into the Li River countryside, Yangshuo, and the Longji rice terraces, connecting landscape with village traditions.

Sunrise above the Li River, bamboo rafting on the Yulong River, and cormorant night fishing create a close encounter with the waterways that define the region.

The later days continue to Jinzhu and nearby Zhuang villages for local food, craft traditions, forest walking, and views across the hand-built terraces.

The route finishes with a transfer back to Guilin. River activities, sunrise viewing, and walking plans are confirmed according to weather and local access.
Itinerary
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Guilin & Transfer to Yangshuo
Arrive in Guilin and meet the confirmed transfer at Guilin Liangjiang International Airport, Guilin North Railway Station, or Guilin West Railway Station. Continue south through the karst countryside to Yangshuo and the Li River area.
After check-in, spend the remainder of the day beside the river, taking in the surrounding limestone peaks and the slower pace of the countryside. The evening is kept light so there is time to rest before the early start for sunrise on the following morning.

Day 2: Li River Sunrise, Yulong River Rafting & Cormorant Fishing
Set out before dawn for Xianggong Mountain and walk to the viewpoint above the Li River. As the light changes, the river bends between layers of limestone peaks, creating one of the best-known panoramas in the Guilin region.
Descend to the Yulong River for a bamboo-raft journey through fields, villages, and karst scenery. Later, pause beside the Li River for lunch and afternoon tea in a riverside courtyard before returning toward Yangshuo.
After dark, join a cormorant-fishing demonstration on the Li River. The lamps, bamboo raft, and trained birds illustrate a traditional fishing practice recognized as part of Guangxi’s local cultural heritage.

Day 3: Longji Rice Terraces & Jinzhu Zhuang Village
Travel from Yangshuo to the Longji Rice Terraces, where curved fields climb the mountain slopes in patterns shaped by generations of cultivation. Walk through selected viewpoints and observe how the colours and water levels change with the agricultural season.
Continue to Jinzhu Zhuang Village for an introduction to local food, clothing, and craft traditions. Visit the village craft market and share tea and conversation in a community setting before an evening meal based on seasonal ingredients.
Stay in the terrace region for the night, allowing time to experience the village after most day visitors have left. The slower evening also prepares the route for the next day’s forest and architecture walk.

Day 4: Zhuang Architecture & Forest Walk
Walk between Zhuang villages with a local carpenter and examine the raised wooden houses that define the settlement. The visit explains mortise-and-tenon joinery, the use of local timber, and the way buildings respond to the mountain climate.
After a lunch of Zhuang dishes, continue on a gentle forest path between the villages. Terraces and wooded slopes open along the route before the walk reaches the Nine Dragons and Five Tigers viewpoint, one of the broadest perspectives across Longji.
Return to the village after the hike for a quiet final evening in the terrace region. The day connects built heritage, farming, and landscape across a single walking route.

Day 5: Longji Morning & Return to Guilin
Wake in the terrace region and begin with a local oil-tea breakfast before a final short walk through the village. Morning light provides a last view across the fields and timber houses before the road journey back to Guilin.
Transfer for approximately two and a half hours to Guilin Liangjiang International Airport or the confirmed railway station. The pickup time is coordinated with the onward flight or train.
