Private cultural journey
About this Journey
Inner Mongolia brings together volcanic terrain, open grassland, desert-edge scenery, the Yellow River, and craft traditions within a five-day circuit from Hohhot.

The route begins with a city walk before continuing to Ulan Hada Volcano Geopark and Huitengxile Grassland for prairie scenery, music, archery, and an overnight yurt experience.

The journey then crosses toward Shenquan and Qingshuihe before visiting Laoniuwan Yellow River Grand Canyon and learning about local porcelain traditions.

The circuit finishes in Hohhot. Outdoor activities, grassland programmes, and boat access are confirmed according to season, weather, and local operations.
Itinerary
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Hohhot & Qingcheng City Walk
Arrive in Hohhot and check in at the confirmed hotel. After time to settle, begin a Qingcheng city walk that introduces the city’s long connection with Zhaojun culture and Tibetan Buddhist traditions.
Continue through Da Zhao Square and the surrounding historic quarter, then walk toward Manduhai Park for a quieter view of local daily life. Pavilions, lakeside paths, and residential streets show a more relaxed side of the Inner Mongolian capital.
Finish with an evening walk through a local food street before returning to the hotel. The first day remains within Hohhot and prepares for the following morning’s drive to the volcanic landscape.

Day 2: Ulan Hada Volcanoes & Huitengxile Grassland
Travel to Ulan Hada Volcano Geopark and walk among the dark lava fields and open volcanic cones. The route includes selected viewpoints across the steppe and enough time to study how the landform rises from the surrounding grassland.
Continue across the Yinshan Mountains to Huitengxile Grassland. A traditional welcome, pastoral music, and time on the open prairie introduce the region’s herding culture.
Remain on the grassland for the evening programme and spend the night in the confirmed yurt accommodation. Outdoor activities and any fire-based programme follow current weather and local safety conditions.

Day 3: Grassland Culture, Shenquan Desert & Qingshuihe
Spend the morning with a local herding family on Huitengxile Grassland. Learn about Mongolian script and etiquette, listen to the horse-head fiddle, share milk tea, and practise introductory archery in the open pasture.
Continue to Shenquan Desert Scenic Area, where the Yellow River meets the edge of the Kubuqi Desert. Walk selected viewpoints to compare the cultivated riverbank, sand dunes, and the broad waterway carrying sediment eastward.
Travel onward to Qingshuihe for the confirmed local stay. The day ends after dinner in the open landscape, with the evening arrangement following current seasonal conditions.

Day 4: Qingshuihe Porcelain & Laoniuwan Grand Canyon
Begin with Qingshuihe’s porcelain tradition, using a local workshop to understand the clay, kiln history, and forms associated with the area. Shape a small ceramic piece under instruction before continuing toward the Yellow River.
Explore Laoniuwan Yellow River Grand Canyon, where cliffs, sections of the Great Wall, old village remains, and the river meet in one landscape. The confirmed route includes the geopark viewpoints and the boat journey when river operations allow.
Return to Hohhot in the evening and finish in Kuan Xiangzi Food Street before checking in for the final night.

Day 5: Hohhot Departure
Keep the final morning light, with time for breakfast, packing, and a short walk near the hotel before the confirmed onward transport.
At the agreed pickup time, transfer to Hohhot Baita International Airport or the railway station. The five-day Inner Mongolia circuit concludes on arrival at the confirmed departure point.
