Private cultural journey
About this Journey
This Xinjiang journey follows Silk Road history from Kashgar into the desert and onward to the high landscapes of Tashkurgan and Muztagh Ata.

Kashgar Old Town, its traditional teahouse, local music, and the Id Kah Mosque introduce the region’s urban heritage before the route reaches the N39 Desert near Makit.

The China–Pakistan Friendship Highway then climbs toward White Sand Lake, Tashkurgan Stone City, the Golden Grassland, and Muztagh Ata Glacier Park.

The six-day circuit returns to Kashgar. Mountain-road access, local permits, and high-altitude conditions are confirmed before travel.
Itinerary
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kashgar
Arrive at Kashgar Airport or railway station and transfer to the confirmed hotel. After check-in, rest and adjust to the dry climate and time difference of western China.
Take a short orientation walk near the hotel to become familiar with the surrounding district. The main route begins the following morning in Kashgar Old Town before continuing toward the desert.

Day 2: Kashgar Old Town, Traditional Music & the N39 Desert
Begin at the opening of Kashgar Old Town and walk through its lanes while tracing the city’s place on the Silk Road. Continue to a traditional teahouse to hear the dutar, rawap, qalun, and tambourine in a setting shaped by local furniture and decoration.
Visit a local instrument workshop to see how Uyghur string instruments are assembled and finished. The craft demonstration connects the morning’s live music with the materials and handwork behind each instrument.
Travel in the afternoon to the N39 Desert near Makit, at the edge of the Taklamakan. Cross the sand by the confirmed route and experience the scale of the desert before the evening stay.

Day 3: Id Kah Mosque & Kashgar Cultural Life
Return to Kashgar and visit the Id Kah Mosque, one of the city’s most important religious and architectural landmarks. Explore the public areas open on the confirmed day and learn how the mosque relates to the surrounding old-city streets.
Continue with an art-focused walk through Kashgar, using sketching and observation to record doors, courtyards, market scenes, and changing light within the ancient city.
In the evening, attend the confirmed immersive cultural performance in Kashgar. The day concludes after the show and return to the hotel.

Day 4: Friendship Highway, White Sand Lake & Tashkurgan
Leave Kashgar and follow the China–Pakistan Friendship Highway into the Kunlun Mountains. The road climbs from the basin toward the Pamir Plateau, with broad views across dry valleys and snow-covered peaks.
Stop at White Sand Lake, where pale dunes rise behind clear blue water. Walk the accessible lakeshore and viewpoints before continuing south through the high-altitude landscape.
Arrive in Tashkurgan County in the afternoon and settle in for the night. The day closes after the long high-altitude road journey across the Pamir landscape.

Day 5: Tashkurgan Stone City & Muztagh Ata Glacier Park
Begin at Tashkurgan Stone City and the adjoining Golden Grassland, where ruined walls overlook wetlands and the surrounding Pamir peaks. The site introduces the area’s historic role on routes through the Western Regions.
Continue toward Muztagh Ata Glacier Park for a closer view of the snow-covered mountain known as the Father of Ice Mountains. Follow the confirmed visitor route within the park and allow time to adjust to the elevation.
Return by road to Kashgar after the glacier visit. The long drive is broken by rest and photography stops agreed for the day’s road conditions.

Day 6: Farewell to Xinjiang: Kashgar Departure
Keep the final morning unhurried, with time for breakfast, packing, and a short walk near the hotel before the onward journey.
Complete check-out and meet the transfer at the agreed time. The route to Kashgar Airport or the railway station follows the supplied flight or train schedule.
The six-day Xinjiang circuit concludes on arrival at the confirmed departure point, after the Silk Road, desert, and Pamir Plateau journey returns to Kashgar.
